Lecture #11:
Taking control of your finances
by Darcy A. Santor
Hard time making ends meet? Spending faster than you should? Can’t reign in that desire to buy something, now? In this lecture, you will learn about the strategies that can help you understand your spending habits, budget better, resist the urge to spend, and learn know and when to ask for help.
Not surprisingly, money and finances are one of the major sources of stress for students, especially for those who are away at school or who are living alone. Many students have to work to support themselves, during the summers and also while at school. It sounds reasonable. Work during the summers and work a little while you study.
That’s becoming increasingly difficult. Work more and study less. That will make it hard to get the grades that you may need, and very often that is not enough. Do I take on more student loans? Am I even eligible?
If you have a tendency to spend money without thinking, then an already difficult situation may get much, much worse. In this next seminar, you will learn about the impact of financial stress, how other students manage the stress and learn about your own attitudes toward spending. You will also be introduced to some of the proven strategies that can help you stay within your budget.
